Following the success and well reception of Innovative Talented Young Minds’ (IN.TYM) song Holy by Gani-Y, a single from IN.TYM’s first music compilation titled Respect the Process which was released on 18 December 2020, the organisation is looking for young talent from the South Coast to feature in the next EP aimed at showcasing the multifaceted sounds of gospel music.
IN.TYM is a hub for creatives who are passionate about the arts, media, and entertainment industry. The organisation focuses on sharing knowledge, skills and experiences while collaborating and creating content with and for emerging creatives. Apart from providing a space for young minds to develop and hone their skills, their objective is to create a community of artists and media practitioners who can sustain themselves. They aim to help people grow in their art; be it in music, dance, photography, recording skills, radio broadcasting, videography, song writing etc.
The song Holy – which is available for streaming and download on various digital platforms – is a gospel song by message but hip hop by sound design and was written and produced by Yanga Gani from Port Shepstone.
In this light, IN.TYM has decided to create a 10-track contemporary gospel compilation and is looking for 10 local artists to feature. These young artists will be required to send two-minute audio or visual clips of themselves showcasing their talent. The shortlisted candidates will then face off at live auditions, from which the 10 artists will be selected. The selected individuals will be required to attend a workshop for song-writing sessions and rehearsals in May. Songwriters, producers, and instrumentalists are also welcomed to join in the creation of this project. All talent involved will benefit from royalty splits.
This compilation aims to explore and showcase other sounds that are not the typical sound that South African gospel artists create, therefore entrants need to consider this when they audition.
At the workshop, IN.TYM also aims to educate on the business side of being a musician such as the process of registering your music and what royalties are etc., share insight on recording deals, and all other relevant information to equip these youngsters should they pursue a career in music.
This initiative is the brainchild of Kusasalethu Ngalo, the founder and director of IN.TYM who is also a rapper and has witnessed some of his peers reach their downfall due to being uneducated about the ins-and-outs of the music industry. “Many artists get into the entertainment industry hungry and just looking for a chance to showcase their talents, so they end up signing contracts they don’t understand, therefore leading to their downfall,” said Ngalo. He also added that he hopes, through his organisation, he will change the lives of emerging creatives from his hometown of Margate and surrounding areas by educating and sharing all that he knows.
Talented individuals who are interested in becoming a part of this project should WhatsApp their audition clips along with their name and surname, area of residence and contact details to 084 887 8928 or send an email to info@intym.co.za.
